DREAMS and Dreaming fascinate all of us.This is partly because we all dream and partly because dreams are so mysterious, yet so vivid and memorable, that they must mean something.Infact, I believe , most dreams do mean something, although there are various opinions about exactly what they signify.
Novelist Graham Greene used his dreams for his writings.Paul McCartney dreamed the tune of the famous song "Yesterday".And many of us know about the chemist F.A.Kekule who dreamed about the ring structure of the benzene molecule. Anyway there is no reason to work on and use your dreams, unless you are interested in doing so.May be, dreams do their work whether we strive to understand them or not.
Getting bored..Ok we'll go back..BackDuring sleep, what is happening in the brain can be measured by the use of an EEG(Electro Encephalo Graph).Electrodes placed in the scalp pick up brain waves of about one millionth of a volt in strength. These can be amplified and traced on a paper or on a tape ,where changes in frequency can be seen.
During sleep the eyes of the subjects could be seen stirring beneath their closed lids-as if they are watching some moving figures. These motions are called "Rapid Eye Movements" and the phases of sleep were called as RAM periods. It was found that during REM sleep the flow of blood to the brain is increased along with the brain temperature. Both penis in males and clitoris in women becomes erect.Irregularities in breathing and heart beat were also noted during REM sleep.
It was also discovered that if a person was awakened during REM sleep, they could usually remember vivid dreams. It seemed to be the case that only during NREM sleep humans really beacomes 'unconsious'....
